In the Music Real E101, Nicki chats with Brendan Christou the CEO for the Royal Queensland Show otherwise known affectionately as the Ekka. Queensland’s largest and most loved annual event, attracting on average 400,000 people. Run by the RNA for 10 days in August and staged at its original birthplace, the Brisbane Showgrounds, the Ekka brings the country and city together for a true celebration of agriculture. This year in 2020, the Ekka has been cancelled. It is just the third time in the Ekka’s 143-year history that the show has been cancelled. It was previously cancelled in 1919 due to the Spanish Flu epidemic and in 1942 when the grounds were used as a World War II staging depot. However instead we will be treated to a series of On Line Channels like the Blue Ribbon Baking Series, Meet a Farmer, Paws and Claws and Unplugged to name just a few. We will also be able to access Tastes of Ekka featuring Pop Up Food Locations where people can still buy their strawberry sundae. Brendan shares the Ekka lockdown story through the mammoth task of cancelling Brisbane’s most popular annual event. https://themusicreal.com.au/2020/07/26/brendan-christou-cancelling-the-ekka-for-the-3rd-time-in-143-years
