The challenges of the past three years have placed enormous pressure on music industry businesses. I hope that you know just how incredible you are to still be out there gigging. Few businesses in other markets could have the mental tenacity to adapt and pivot like you guys do. Bravo!!
Without guarantee and without government funding, the majority of the practitioners in our industry have learned, through necessity, how to forage, innovate, pivot and level up in order to survive. For many industry people, lockdown was an opportunity to tune into themselves more without the distractions of tours and gigs.
We are committed to highlighting ways to stay healthy and whole for practitioners in the Australian music industry for we well understand what it takes to deliver music and entertainment to the masses.
As such we wanted to share this site with you: https://www.bluezones.com
Blue Zones are pockets of people around the world with the highest life expectancy or with the highest proportions of people who reach 100. Twin studies show that only 20% of our life expectancy is genetically controlled. The majority is determined by lifestyle and environment.
Given certain criteria there are 5 places around the globe that were identified:
Barbagia region of Sardinia – Mountainous highlands of inner Sardinia with the world’s highest concentration of male centenarians.
Ikaria, Greece – Aegean Island with one of the world’s lowest rates of middle age mortality and the lowest rates of dementia.
Nicoya Peninsula, Costa Rica – World’s lowest rates of middle age mortality, second highest concentration of male centenarians.
Seventh Day Adventists – Highest concentration is around Loma Linda, California. They live 10 years longer than their North American counterparts.
Okinawa, Japan – Females over 70 are the longest-lived population in the world.
Studies have identified the defining factors for these pockets. Things like:
Move Naturally
Purpose
Down Shift - Strategy for Stress Management
80% Rule
Plant Slant
Wine @ 5
Belong
Loved Ones First
Right Tribe
2020 changed our industry for good.
What we make of these changes within ourselves, our bands, our teams, our networks, our communities and our industry - will be the recovery that will resonate through generations of music practitioners to come.
